Requirements
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Director of Outreach. The Director of Outreach is a managerial role that will play a key role in developing and executing GU-Q’s external relations strategy, which will include identifying, establishing, and strengthening its relationships with external partners in the public and private sector.
Key Accountabilities:
- Contribute to the development of, and effectively execute, GU-Q’s external relations strategy working closely with the Dean and other stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain an institutional network of relationships of strategic importance to GU-Q in the public and private sectors.
- Identify and advise on outreach programs and activities organized to expand and deepen the university’s external engagement.
Key Activities:
- Connect the Dean, members of the leadership team, and others with external stakeholders and assist in building and cultivating relationships.
- Provide advice to the Dean, leadership team, and university officials on how best to contact and engage with key stakeholders and constituents in the public and private sectors.
- Assist relevant stakeholders at GU-Q by helping them to understand and navigate protocols and relationship dynamics in Qatar.
- Proactively establish and cultivate working relationships with comparable teams at key organizations and academic institutions in Qatar and the broader Middle East region.
- Seek opportunities to develop linkages and contacts that will support other institutional functions.
- Advise the Communications team in the development of strategies to engage targeted audiences.
- Lead the development of practical guidelines related to engagement with external parties.
- Manage and mentor external relations professional(s), including setting and reviewing performance objectives, and identifying training and development needs.
- Leverage the CRM platform and other technical solutions, as needed, to support access to comprehensive and timely information related to prospective and current external partners for outreach/engagement activities and for internal reporting.
- Maintain awareness of public policy (including laws, regulations, and guidelines) relevant to GU-Q.
- Other similar duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong working knowledge of the local landscape (culture, norms, laws, institutions, networks, etc.).
- Understanding of global higher education generally and, specifically, the landscape in Qatar and the region.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic.
- Ability to exercise a high level of discretion and sound judgment.
- Ability to work with diverse cultures and individuals.
