Position Purpose

The Engineering, Health & Safety Manager is an expert in all aspects of property maintenance, health & safety and security at our hotel. This person keeps our building in tip-top condition, and ensures that the hotel, team members, and guests within it are always safe and secure. All of this must be achieved in compliance with Hilton policy and local legislation, and with a positive enthusiasm to get involved in all aspects of successfully running our hotel.

Duties & Key Responsibilities

Lead by Example

  • Come to work every day with a smile on your face
  • Take ownership for all hotel maintenance, non-food health & safety, security on property and the implementation of Hilton’s Cleanstay initiative (together with the HSK Team Leader)
  • Manage the pomec, risk & compliance budget and expenses
  • Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
  • Advise and assist other teams with all aspects related to risk & compliance at the hotel.
  • Supported by the Chief Host, select, train, supervise and evaluate team members who are hired to perform engineering, health & (non food) safety duties
  • Be a great leader for all maintenance and security team members employed by the hotel.
  • Establish a culture of risk & compliance at the hotel – plan, offer and conduct training with all team members on relevant risk & compliance procedures that must be adhered to within their roles.
  • Always keep the safety of our guests and team members at the forefront in everything you do, making sure you are visible in the hotel to reassure where required.
  • Maintain fantastic cross-departmental collaboration, establishing particularly effective working relationships with the kitchen, housekeeping and guest operations teams.
  • Be a role model for all team members, outsourced staff and shared service resources, and deliver passionate, friendly service in line with our brand values and behaviours.
  • Pro-actively support colleagues in operations departments during peak service hours (e.g. giving a helping hand in the restaurant at breakfast, clearing tables etc.).
  • Ensure that all engineering, health and safety TMs understand the purpose of their role, including the requirement to support in other areas of the business each day e.g. breakfast setup, cleaning.


  • Arrange for routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobby, back of house facilities (heart of house, kitchen etc.), car park, and outdoor areas.
  • Find ways to reduce hotel operating costs and conserve energy and water, managing LightStay together with the HSK Team Leader and monitoring key engineering performance indicators.
  • Ensure timely response by maintenance team to complete repairs and action guest complaints or feedback in relation to engineering issues.
  • Take corrective action as required to improve equipment inventory, quality audit scores, productivity and guest satisfaction.

Non-Food Health & Safety

  • In collaboration with the HSK Team Leader implement Hilton’s CleanStay programme to ensure that housekeeping delivers impeccable cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the hotel.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and areas of the hotel to observe possible unsafe conditions, and make sure any identified risks are resolved.
  • Ensure the execution of all non-food health & safety plans at the hotel according to local law and Hilton standards.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle team member / guest compensation claims. Document accidents and incidents timely, accurately in our respective systems and /or log books
  • Regularly assess offices and workspaces to ensure the equipment (desks, chairs etc.) and areas are conducive to a good working environment, and suitable for the individual needs of team members.
  • Where necessary, provide training to team members on how to ensure their own safety at work e.g. heavy lifting, desk and screen setup.


  • Take responsibility of all security issues including Fire, Life & Safety, responding to and attending as necessary any incident involving security or safety of premises, guests or colleagues and initiate appropriate actions.
  • Develop and implement emergency programmes in the hotel and act fast to resolve issues that occur inside and outside of the building.
  • Supported by the Security Supervisor, manage security operations connected with evacuation of the building and similar events.
  • Supported by the Security Supervisor, secure premises and enforce efficient property surveillance and patrolling.

In addition, the Engineering, Health & Safety Manager should execute any other duties assigned to him/her by the Chief Host as and when required.
