What we want

The Training Coordinator in the Division of Arts and Science (DAS) at Texas A&M University at Qatar is responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day responsibilities to run the Division Writing Center. In addition, they are responsible for the development, design, and facilitation of classroom and individual training programs to support student learning. They serve as the subject matter specialist for writing center pedagogy. They supervise two Training Specialists and student staff. This position is NOT located in the United States. One must be willing to relocate to Doha, Qatar.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of related experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Knowledge of writing basics. Knowledge of literacy and writing basics
  • Ability to assist in the design of new training material and update of current training curricula

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in English, Composition, Rhetoric, Communication Studies, Education, TESOL, or related field with an emphasis in writing
  • Academic specialization in rhetoric (written or verbal), written composition, or ESL/EFL/ELL
  • Four years tutoring/administrative experience in a MENA writing, speaking, or learning center in a higher education setting
  • Experience with new media such as audio or video production and editing

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fluent English speaker with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of rhetoric, composition, communication, or writing studies
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues faced by multilingual and international students
  • Knowledge of best practices in multilingual writing instruction and resources
  • Ability to make effective presentations
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of and ability to consistently apply FERPA regulations
  • Strong research, writing, and reporting skills
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, generate ideas for practical solutions, prioritize tasks, and implement effective courses of action
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Basic knowledge of new media such as audio or video production and editing
  • Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, web design or HTML, content management systems (WordPress, Wix, Weebly, etc.)

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) Certification
  • Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)

Responsibilities:

  • Administration of Division Writing Center (DWC) – Hires, trains, supervises, and mentors DWC professional, graduate, and undergraduate consultants. Leads regular staff meetings. Installs, maintains, and administers appointment scheduling software to ensure efficient center operations. Tracks and reports utilization data (semester and annual reports). Develops, updates, and tracks budget. Monitors, reviews, and approves timesheets. Collaborates with DWC Director to create a mission and vision for the DWC. Collaborates with DWC Director, and staff to create an innovative, effective, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Establishes and updates services and policies based on best practices and current pedagogy. Maintains a productive work environment in the writing consultant area.
  • Training and Content Development – Develops, updates, and supports training for DWC staff and in-class workshops. Delivers training as lead instructor in collaboration with training specialist. Facilitates training courses and in-class workshops. Assists staff with review and refinement of workshop and training curriculum. Assists and collaborates with faculty to meet training deliveries associated with specialized knowledge area. Provides assistance and support to students working on communication assignments and multi‐media projects such as oral presentations, audio and video recordings, and digital portfolios.
  • Promotion of Services – Coordinates, plans, and manages special events to promote DWC services. Develops student resources and updates content on webpages. Contributes to a contemporary social media presence to publicize current offerings to TAMUQ students. Coordinates the posting of digital signage for promoting the DWC services. Represents the DWC at conferences and university events.
  • Consultation and other department duties – Consults students on their writing, speaking, and audio/video skills. Maintains records of consultations. Fills in for other consultants on the schedule when necessary. Works with DWC Director to foster relationships with faculty teaching W (writing intensive) and C (communication intensive) courses. Serves on campus committees to represent DWC and student needs. Coordinates the use of and maintains the integrity of DWC’s media equipment for student use both in the center and in classrooms. Performs other duties as assigned.
